Alpine Skiing World Cup on the Stelvio Slope in Bormio

Unmissable. The Alpine Ski World Cup is the event we look forward to all year round. From home on big screens or live at the parterre, cheering on the great ski champions is an electrifying experience. To be done at least once in a lifetime!

Bormio is a legendary venue for Alpine skiing. Ever since they were created, the Bormio ski slopes have been among the legendary stages of the Ski World Cup. Champions such as Deborah Compagnoni and Pietro Vitalini were born on these slopes and some of the most beautiful and significant pages of this discipline have been written. The dates are always the same. On 28 and 29 December, Bormio will be trembling in expectation of the opening of the gate.

How it all began, skiing in Bormio

In the era of modern skiing, the story began in Bormio in the early 1980s with the organisation of the World Series. It was a sort of first dress rehearsal for the World Championships that would later be held in 1985 on the Stelvio slope in Bormio and the Cevedale slope in Santa Caterina Valfurva. The rehearsals were a great success! Everyone realised the technical qualities of the Valtellina slopes, so much so that the Stelvio became a permanent part of the men's World Cup circuit in 1993.

Great champions are seen from the Stelvio

The snow on the Stelvio slope is always skiable to the limit. Hard as ice! On this snow a race is never anonymous. Because on the Stelvio slope you only win if you are really great. And to understand this you only have to read the roll of honour of the World Cup downhill winners. But do you remember the great World Cup finals of 1995? Just one name is enough: Alberto Tomba! Even today, 25 years later, the images of Tomba raising the crystal ball to the sky at the end of a legendary downhill are still fresh in our minds.

In 2000, the star of Austrian Hermann Maier shone in full splendour. From the 2005 World Championships, we remember the acrobatics of Bode Miller and Benny Raich and the classy duel between Croatia's Janica Kostelic and Sweden's Anja Paerson. Today, the undisputed king of the Stelvio piste is Dominik Paris, known to everyone as "Domme".

No, you don't win here by chance. Who will be next?
